Bonnie Treichel interviewed by UBS’ Conversations Podcast

Bonnie Treichel, Founder and Chief Solutions Officer of Endeavor Retirement, sat down with Dan Cassidy and Total Wealth Strategist, Ainsley Carbone, on the UBS Conversations podcast to discuss the provisions of SECURE 2.0 and how they apply to both plan sponsors and individuals.

SECURE 2.0 has over 90 provisions and is aimed at expanding retirement plan coverage for individuals by ensuring that more individuals have access to retirement savings. Bonnie notes that it may seem overwhelming to plan sponsors and fiduciaries, but when you start to narrow it down based on optional versus required and what provisions apply to the plan, then compliance becomes more manageable.

According to Bonnie, if you are a plan sponsor, you should start doing the following:

  1. Review SECURE 2.0 to identify which provisions are required and apply to you.
  2. Understand the timing of provisions that apply to your plans. For example, the SECURE 2.0 Roth catch-up provision was just delayed until January 1, 2026.
  3. Determine how your service providers will help implement the various provisions that require coordination between payroll providers, recordkeepers, plan sponsors, etc.
  4. Work with a trusted partner, such as Endeavor Retirement, to develop a strategy to watch for forthcoming changes from the IRS, DOL, and other agencies to ensure compliance and understanding with the changing rules. For example, the agencies have already issued additional guidance on the IRS Employee Plans Compliance Resolution System (EPCRS) as well as Required Minimum Distributions (RMDs).
