Reimagining Retirement | Episode 7

On March 20, 2024, Bonnie Treichel, Chief Solutions Officer of Endeavor Retirement, hosted Endeavor’s seventh episode of Reimagining Retirement: The Evolving Role of Technology in Financial Services. Watch the replay now:
The episode featured three thought leaders: Michael Kleeman (Broadridge), Apryl M. Pope (Pope Financial Planning, LLC), and Steve McCoy (iJoin). Three key areas were explored during the discussion.

Technology in Financial Advice:

  • Apryl M. Pope highlighted the use of CRM systems (Redtail, Wealthbox), simplicity of video creation using basic tools such as your iPhone, value of AI tools like ChatGPT, and the importance of working with compliance in content creation. Even if you are associated with a large financial services firm with strict compliance doesn’t mean you can’t create social content!

  • Michael Kleeman emphasized Broadridge’s focus on creating tools for advisors, data integration, and the critical role of human involvement alongside AI. Human touch won’t go away and becomes even more important with AI, which is contrary to some people’s beliefs.

  • Steve McCoy discussed the demand for personalization, open architecture, data access, and leveraging automation for proactive strategies in the wealth and retirement convergence.

Challenges and Opportunities:

When asked about the biggest challenges that advisors face, the panelists discussed change management in implementing new technology and navigating tech stacks that don’t integrate while managing traditional responsibilities. At the same time, the biggest opportunity for advisors lies in the chance to leverage data for improved participant outcomes and a more personalized experience.

Future Outlook:

When asked what the future of wealth and retirement holds for advisors, the panelists discussed the importance of staying informed as technology continues to quickly evolve. As Steve discussed, advisors that don’t adapt and find ways to use data will struggle to survive in the coming years. While doing so, advisors should be aware of the compliance and regulatory obligations associated with the data they collect (think: privacy and cybersecurity!).

Final take-away:

You may think it is impossible, but it’s not. Just ask and think about how to make it happen with innovation and an open mindset. Then call on your partners and network to help you make it happen!
